The Intersection of New Creative Elements
Benjamin Sunarjo is a multidisciplinary artist of Indonesian descent based in Biel/Bienne. His work explores the transformative power of the body by exposing moments of pure physicality. He is particularly interested in the fragmentary passages of the everyday and their potential to reveal forgotten or invisible entanglements that complicate our understanding of the world. Benjamin studied contemporary dance (Trinity Laban Conservatoire London), contemporary art (Bern University of the Arts) and environmental sciences (ETH Zurich). Since three years, he has been curating the festival Translocal Performance Art Giswil together with Andrea Saemann. With the photographer Ruben Wyttenbach, he developed the art education project Courant Normal using the medium of the selfie to initiate a dialog with adolescents about identity and social media. Benjamin was selected for a scholarship in the research project Collecting the ephemeral of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts 2020 to 2022. He teaches at the Bern University of the Arts and has performed for artists such as Tino Sehgal, Boris Charmatz, Alexandra Pirici, Alexandra Bachzetsis and Boris Nikitin.
