Nghệ sĩ Jennifer Vanderpool sẽ thảo luận về công việc giám tuyển của cô ở Miền Nam California như một thực hành khuyến khích sự tham gia của cộng đồng nhằm đặt ra những câu hỏi về môi trường, hệ thống tín ngưỡng, giới tính và kinh tế xã hội. Vượt ra ngoài các thể chế đứng đầu, Vanderpool sẽ thảo luận các tác phẩm của những nghệ sĩ-giám tuyển khác tại Los Angeles đã thực hiện những nỗ lực giám tuyển nhằm gắn kết các cộng đồng trong hoạt động tranh biện, hợp tác, và tương tác xã hội. Cô sẽ phát triển câu chuyện về các nhà hoạt động này bằng các thảo luận về mối quan hệ giữa việc làm giám tuyển như một thực hành mang tính xã hội, và hoạt động giám tuyển* như những chiến lược của việc giám tuyển nhằm thách thức các quan điểm bá quyền như được minh họa bởi các thể chế và triển lãm ở miền Nam California.
*curatorial activism: là một thuật ngữ chỉ hoạt động thực hành tổ chức triển lãm nghệ thuật với mục đích đảm bảo rằng các bộ phận nghệ sĩ nhất định không còn bị loại bỏ hoặc loại trừ khỏi các dòng trần thuật chủ lưu của nghệ thuật.

Jennifer Vanderpool is a Los Angeles based new genre artist who works across mediums to reveal relationships between physical landscapes and the unseen forces that shape them, knitting together narratives about forgotten institutions, people, and communities. Her 2017 exhibitions included Super Natural, which opened at the National Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow, Russia, and traveled to Nepravilnyi Prikus, Simferopol. She exhibited Flores Para El Trueque initially with Mercadito & Mentidero, Bogotá, Colombia, and then with No Lugar – Arte Contemporáneo and La Huerta y La Maquina, Quito, Ecuador. Vanderpool's video work was included in the 2017 Festival M.A.R.S. | Music & Art ReSound, Los Angeles and Twenty/20 at Edward Cella Art+Architecture, Los Angeles. She has been awarded exhibition funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Kunstrådet: Danish Arts Council, Kulturrådet: Swedish Arts Council, and Malmö Stad as well as a National Endowment for the Arts Challenge America grant for her community art outreach work and a National Endowment for the Arts: Art Works grant for her curatorial work. Vanderpool has been a Visiting Lecturer at UC Santa Barbara, UC Los Angeles, Otis College of Art and Design, Universiteit van Amsterdam, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. Recently, Jennifer Vanderpool has presented "Garment Girl' - the solo exhibition in Heritage Space in May 2018.
